The key processes behind the design
I like to really get to know my clients to understand how they want to use their garden, discuss their hopes & how they want to live their lives outside. I then use this information to create a brief for the garden design & provide a quote. Below are the steps of how the process works, from initial contact to the completed design.
Step 1 ~ Initial Design Consultation & Brief
At the start of the process we will book a discovery meeting. During this meeting, I usually come to see your garden. Whilst I am there, I try to get to know you & your family to understand what it is you want to achieve from your outdoor space. Whether you are wanting to create a peaceful sanctuary to sit & enjoy or if you need a usable space for a busy family life that also works well as a beautiful extension of your home. Whatever it is that is driving you to change your garden, we will discuss what you want, need & hope for.
Step 2 ~ Site Survey
Once we have discussed your ideas, I will perform a site survey. I will re-visit your garden & establish accurate measurements & site levels.
It's essential to be able to see the space I am working with & grasp the level of work potentially involved in creating what you're looking for.
No space is too big or too small. A messy garden is nothing to be ashamed of either, it's exactly why I am here to help.
Step 3 ~ Scaled Based Plan
Once I have seen the space & taken measurements, I will then make a start on a base plan showing the garden layout to scale. This is a key part of the process to know the size of the space I am working with & to start to see your garden as a blank canvas ready for my designs.
Step 4 ~ Concept Design Drawing
Once the scaled plan is complete, I will hand draw a full colour A1 plan illustrating the proposed design for your garden's transformation. It includes all of the main design features and an impression of planting. These plans are a work of art in themselves - with an incredible level of detail and colour bringing to life exactly how your garden will look.
Step 5 ~ Design Consultation
I will present my plan - scaled, in colour & with details of every aspect of what we have discussed. At this stage, minor alterations can be taken on as feedback. If there are any revisions required, these are made & then you will be provided with the Final Concept Design.
I am happy to talk through material choices that I would recommend & discuss all of the elements within the design.
The design is now complete & ready to handover to your landscaper.
